The Indian Council of Agricultural Research has launched a scheme to take up strategic research and technology demonstration on climate resilient agricultural practices. The scheme covers research on adaptation and mitigation practices involving crops, livestock, fisheries and natural resource management. The Scheme is being implemented with CRIDA, Hyderabad as Lead Institute under over all supervision of NRM Division of ICAR. The project attempts to develop and popularize climate resilient technologies in agriculture which will address vulnerable areas of the country. The outputs of the scheme will help the districts and regions prone to extreme weather conditions like droughts, floods, frost, heat waves, etc. to cope with climate variability. Although the target area of the scheme are all climatically vulnerable regions of the country, small and marginal farmers in rainfed, coastal and hill areas will benefit more in view of the focused attention in these regions. Under this project Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Jodhpur was selected to implement the Technology Demonstration component of the Project. Under this component, an integrated package of proven technologies would be demonstrated in one village panchayat in each district for adaptation and mitigation of the crop and livestock production systems to climate variability based on the available technologies. The launching of this project was done by Dr. M.M Roy, Director, CAZRI in presence of Head of different line departments from the district, Scientists & officials of CAZRI on March 15, 2011 in Purkhawas village of Luni Panchayat Samiti. In this programme farmers and farm women were made aware of the project activities to be undertaken during the project period. After that the activities related to climate resilient agriculture in the selected village of Jodhpur district were identified and being implemented.
